Free checked and carry-on baggage allowances by cabin class and route. Allowances vary by route, ticket type, and frequent flyer status — always confirm with the official baggage policy before you fly.

How to Add Extra Baggage & Prices on Aeroméxico

Buy Baggage

Go to aeromexico.com and log in to your account or retrieve your booking from 'Administra tu viaje' (Manage My Booking).
Select your booking and look for 'Añadir maleta' or 'Pagar equipaje extra' options.
Choose the number of extra bags or weight option and complete payment.
After payment, your updated itinerary with the additional baggage will be available in Manage My Booking and you will receive a confirmation email.

Prices

Pricing is per piece (25 kg max per piece), applies to all fare types with the same rates per region. Low/high season varies by route. Some fare types include 1 or 2 free checked bags — the table shows rates for additional pieces beyond the included allowance.

Charges apply per bag when the weight exceeds the 25 kg standard allowance. The first overweight tier starts at 20.1 kg (not 25.1 kg) as published by Aeroméxico. Maximum weight per piece is 45 kg.

Passengers on Light fares can purchase additional 10 kg carry-on baggage. This is separate from regular checked baggage and is only available to Light fare passengers.

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. You can purchase extra baggage through 'Administra tu viaje' (Manage My Booking) on the Aeroméxico website, or via the Aeroméxico mobile app. You can also use Aeroméxico Rewards points to pay for baggage in the app.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Go to aeromexico.com, retrieve your booking under 'Administra tu viaje', and look for 'Añadir maleta' or 'Pagar equipaje extra'. You can also use the Aeroméxico mobile app.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

Aeroméxico recommends purchasing extra baggage before your flight. For Basic fare passengers, check-in opens 24 hours before departure for international flights and 48 hours for domestic flights (AM Plus Básica and Premier Básica). For Canada routes, advance booking is cheaper than purchasing at check-in.

How does Aeroméxico calculate extra baggage charges?

Aeroméxico uses a piece-based system (25 kg per piece) with fixed prices per piece number and route region. Prices vary by low season and high season. Overweight (20.1–45 kg) and oversized charges apply in addition to excess piece charges.

What are the checked baggage limits?

Each checked piece must not exceed 25 kg. Maximum weight per piece is 45 kg (overweight charges apply above 25 kg). You may purchase up to 7 pieces of checked baggage per booking.

What are the overweight and oversized baggage rules?

Overweight: 20.1–31.9 kg costs MXN 700 (domestic) or MXN 1,800 (international); 32–45 kg costs MXN 1,300 (domestic) or MXN 3,600 (international). Oversized charges are MXN 800 (domestic), MXN 3,000 (most international), or MXN 5,000 (Europe/Asia). These apply per bag in addition to excess piece charges.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes, purchasing in advance is cheaper. For Canada routes, golf bag prices are lower when booked in advance (MXN 520–685) vs at check-in (MXN 685–820). Aeroméxico's website encourages advance purchase to 'save time at the airport' with a dedicated 'Pagar equipaje extra' button. The checked baggage pricing table does not publish separate online vs airport rates.

Can I pay for extra baggage with Aeroméxico Rewards points?

Yes. The Aeroméxico mobile app allows you to pay for baggage with Aeroméxico Rewards points. Credit and debit cards are also accepted.

Are there important exceptions for certain routes?

Yes. For flights to/from Atlanta, Detroit, Orlando, Washington, or Newark, certain bulky items (auto parts, electronics, maquiladora samples, bulk food) must be sent via cargo instead of checked baggage. Always check the specific rules for your departure and destination.
