FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. You can buy Extra bags online at air-austral.com while booking your ticket, in 'My booking' (Ma réservation) up to 24 hours before departure, and during online check-in from 24 hours before departure (the rate applied during online check-in is not specified on the site).

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Online at air-austral.com (at booking, in 'My booking', or at online check-in), by phone on +33 825 013 012 (Mon-Sat 8:00-21:00, Sun 11:00-18:00), at Air Austral agencies, through travel agencies, or at the airport on the day of departure.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

The discounted prepaid rate is available up to 24 hours before departure (80€ per bag long-haul, 45€ per bag regional). After that you pay the airport rate (100€ / 50€) on the day of departure.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

You can buy up to 3 extra bags per passenger (more requires contacting Air Austral sales). Free checked allowance is piece-based: Economy (Loisirs) 1 bag of 23 kg, Economy Premium (Confort) 2 bags of 23 kg, Business (Club Austral) 2 bags of 32 kg. Each bag must not exceed 158 cm total dimensions.

How does Air Austral calculate extra baggage charges?

Extra baggage is priced per bag with two fixed rates: long-haul 80€ online / 100€ at the airport, regional 45€ online / 50€ at the airport. The Extra bags product page advertises up to 30% off the airport rate for advance online purchase. Overweight and oversized fees are not published as fixed amounts.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Online prepaid purchase up to 24 hours before departure costs 80€ per bag on long-haul flights versus 100€ at the airport, and 45€ versus 50€ on regional flights.

What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?

Extra bags over 23 kg but within the 32 kg limit (Economy/Economy Premium) incur an airport surcharge whose amount depends on the route. Bags over 32 kg (30 kg on flights to/from Thailand) are refused. Bags over 158 cm must be checked in at the oversize baggage counter.

Are there routes or flights where extra baggage cannot be bought?

Yes. Extra baggage is not available on ATR-operated flights, nor on Réunion-Diego-Suarez, Réunion-Tamatave, Réunion-Rodrigues, Réunion-Moroni and Réunion-Tananarive (it is allowed from Tananarive to Réunion). The Extra bags option also excludes animals and certain sports equipment (scuba tanks, free-flight gear, windsurf, surf, bikes, fishing equipment).

Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I change my booking?

Prepaid extra baggage can be transferred to another flight on request before the check-in deadline. The official FAQ states it is refundable if the booked flight has not yet been operated; refunds are requested at an Air Austral agency, by phone, or via the online refund form.
