Steps

  1. Go to air.bg and select the 'Manage my booking' tab (or add extra baggage during the online ticket booking flow before payment).
  2. Enter your reservation number and last name, then click 'Search Flight' to retrieve your booking.
  3. Choose the 'Additional baggage' option and select how many extra checked bags you need (up to three).
  4. Complete payment online to get the prepaid rate; you will receive a confirmation of the purchased service.

Overweight baggage

A checked bag weighing up to 32 kg (above the 23 kg standard) is charged an excess baggage fee. Overweight/overweight-related excess fees cannot be purchased online — they are only requested at a Bulgaria Air office, Customer Service Center, travel agency, or at the airport. Bags over 32 kg can only be shipped as cargo.

Oversized baggage

Bags within the 23 kg weight limit but exceeding 158 cm total dimensions are charged excess baggage fees in two tiers: up to 203 cm and up to 280 cm. These fees are assessed at offices, Customer Service Center, travel agency, or at the airport — not online.

Special baggage

Sports equipment (ski/snowboard/golf), bicycles, hunting weapons, and pets are charged flat fees per piece. Ski, snowboard and golf equipment and bicycles can be requested and paid online during booking or via 'Manage my booking'; weapons and pets are arranged in advance with the airline.

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. You can add up to 3 extra checked bags online during booking, or after purchasing a ticket via the 'Manage my booking' tab on air.bg (the 'Check Booking' function) or the Bulgaria Air mobile app. Sports equipment (ski/snowboard/golf) and bicycles can also be bought online in advance. Overweight, oversized and excess-baggage fees cannot be paid online — they are arranged at a Bulgaria Air office, Customer Service Center, travel agency, or at the airport.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

You can request and pay for additional checked baggage online during booking, online after ticket purchase via the 'Manage my booking' / 'Check Booking' function on the website or mobile app, at a Bulgaria Air office or Customer Service Center, through your travel agency (ticket issuer), or at the airport before the flight. When travelling from Athens or Heraklion, extra baggage can only be requested through the ticket issuer or the Customer Service Center by e-mail at callfb@air.bg.

When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?

The prepaid rate applies when the service is requested up to 3 hours before the scheduled departure time. If you request it later than 3 hours before departure, the higher 'At the airport' rates apply.

How does Bulgaria Air calculate extra baggage charges?

Bulgaria Air uses a piece-based system. The fee depends on the bag number (1st, 2nd or 3rd extra bag), whether the route is domestic or international, and whether you prepay online (up to 3 hours before departure) or pay at the airport. Rates are published in BGN and EUR (e.g. 1st extra bag domestic: 30 EUR prepaid / 50 EUR at airport; international: 50 EUR prepaid / 70 EUR at airport), with GBP applied from London, CHF from Zurich and USD from Tel Aviv. The amount paid is non-refundable.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?

Yes. Prepaying online is cheaper: for example the 1st extra bag on domestic routes is 30 EUR prepaid vs 50 EUR at the airport, and on international routes 50 EUR prepaid vs 70 EUR at the airport. Prepaid rates apply when requested up to 3 hours before departure; after that airport rates apply.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

You can buy up to 3 additional checked bags per passenger, each up to 23 kg and 158 cm total dimensions. Standard included allowances: Economy fares with checked baggage include 1 checked bag up to 23 kg; Economy LIGHT (hand baggage only) includes 1 cabin bag up to 10 kg (55×40×23 cm) plus 1 personal item, 12 kg total; Business class includes 2 checked bags up to 32 kg each plus 2 cabin items. Any single bag over 32 kg can only be transported as cargo.

Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?

Yes. Passengers on flights operated by a partner airline or another carrier purchase additional baggage or services at the airport on the day of the flight, and the fees of the operating carrier apply. Passengers who bought tickets from a partner airline with a first flight departing from Bulgaria operated by Bulgaria Air can purchase additional baggage and services through the Customer Service Center and the airline's offices.

Can I get a refund for extra baggage if I cancel my booking?

The amount paid extra for additional or excess baggage is non-refundable.

Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?

FLY MORE Gold cardholders, CCB Club members, and tickets paid with a CCB VISA Platinum or Bulgaria Air–CCB co-branded card may be entitled to 2 free checked bags (23 kg / 158 cm each) on Bulgaria Air-operated flights, but only when the ticket is issued at a fare with checked baggage. When travelling from Athens or Heraklion, extra baggage is only requestable through the ticket issuer or the Customer Service Center (callfb@air.bg).
