FAQ
Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?
Yes. You can add one extra checked bag (1 piece, 20 kg) when booking your ticket on the website or later through Manage Booking / the Prepaid Baggage page, up to 4 hours before flight departure. Less than 4 hours before departure the Airport Excess Baggage Rate applies.
Where do I buy extra baggage?
Online at greaterbay-airlines.com (during booking or via Manage Booking, which links to the Order extraction page), through the Greater Bay Airlines Service Centre (HK$460), or at the airport counter (Airport Excess Baggage Rate applies).
When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?
Prepaid baggage can be purchased online up to 4 hours before flight departure. If you buy less than 4 hours before departure, the Airport Excess Baggage Rate (HK$780 for an extra piece) applies instead of the online prepaid rate of HK$380.
How does Greater Bay Airlines calculate extra baggage charges?
One extra checked bag of 20 kg costs HK$380 online, HK$460 via the Service Centre and HK$780 at the airport counter. Charges are per passenger per flight segment, and each passenger can buy a maximum of one additional checked bag per segment.
Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance vs at the airport?
Yes. The same 1 piece 20 kg bag costs HK$380 prepaid online versus HK$780 at the airport counter. Buy at least 4 hours before departure to get the online prepaid rate.
How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?
Each passenger may purchase a maximum of one additional checked baggage item (1 piece, 20 kg) per flight segment. Free checked allowance by fare type: Premium Go and Flex Go 40 kg (max 2 pieces), Value Go 30 kg (max 2 pieces), Go Go 1 piece 20 kg, Go Go Promo no baggage included (available for purchase). Checked bags must not exceed 158 cm total dimensions; bags over 32 kg or 203 cm are not accepted.
Can I get a refund for prepaid baggage if I cancel or change my booking?
No. Prepaid Baggage Allowance is non-refundable and non-transferable to third parties. It cannot be transferred to new flights nor refunded if you rebook your flight.
What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?
Bags exceeding the weight allowance are charged HK$ 780 (up to 23 kg) and bags measuring 158-203 cm total dimensions are charged HK$ 240 per piece at the Airport Excess Baggage Rate on GBA-operated flights. Bags over 32 kg (70 lbs) or 203 cm (80 in) are not accepted at the airport.
Do partner-operated or codeshare flights have different baggage rules?
Yes. On a single ticket with an immediate connecting flight operated by another airline within the Japan/Korea/South East Asia region, excess baggage is USD 200 per extra piece or overweight unit and USD 60 per oversized piece, collected at the airport. For journeys to other destinations, refer to the respective airlines' baggage policy. Prepaid baggage is not applicable to journeys with immediate connecting flights on other airlines.
Can I pay for extra baggage with cards, loyalty points, or miles?
For excess baggage payments at Bangkok and Manila airports, Greater Bay Airlines accepts cash in local currency only until further notice. The Airport Excess Baggage Rate is converted to local currency at the exchange rate on the day of departure.
Are there any important exceptions or restrictions I should know?
Bags exceeding 32 kg or 203 cm total dimensions are not accepted at the airport. If you are travelling on a Greater Bay Airlines flight with an immediate connecting flight operated by another airline, prepaid baggage is not applicable and excess baggage charges are collected at the airport.
