Ryanair Baggage Allowance

Free checked and carry-on baggage allowances by cabin class and route. Allowances vary by route, ticket type, and frequent flyer status — always confirm with the official baggage policy before you fly.

Checked baggage

All cabins

Ryanair is single-cabin; no free checked baggage except as included in Plus/Family Plus fare bundles. Checked bags (10 kg, 20 kg up to 3, 23 kg up to 1) are paid add-ons otherwise. Baby equipment and mobility aids have separate free allowances.

  • Official Terms §5.2: Plus fares include 'One small bag', 'One 20kg item of checked-in luggage' and 'A reserved standard seat' (plus free airport check-in only if booked via Ryanair website/App before 14 Aug 2025).
  • Bag must be dropped at bag-drop before security; checked-baggage rules apply. Pooling allowed when checked at same time by passengers on same booking (Terms §3.4).
Family Plus — Included1 × 20 kg + 1 × 10 kg check-in bag (for any passenger on the booking)
  • Official Terms §5.3: Family Plus fares (up to 6 pax with at least one child/teen) include 'One 20kg item of checked-in luggage' and 'One 10kg check-in bag for any passenger on the booking', plus reserved standard seat for €4 for adults/teens not required to reserve a seat.
  • Not available on Spanish subsidised routes. The 10 kg bag in this context is included free when part of the Family Plus bundle, distinct from the separately purchasable 10 kg Check-in Bag (paid) described in Terms §3.2.

  • Official Terms §3.6: 'You can check in one fully collapsible pushchair (including double pushchairs), travel system or baby sling per child, plus one car seat, booster seat or travel cot, free of charge.'
  • Additional baby equipment beyond this free allowance is paid: max 20 kg per item, fee €15/£15 per item per one-way flight (Terms §3.6; Fees table: 'Infant/child equipment (car, booster, travel cot) €/£15 at time of booking, €/£20 post-booking').
  • Bag limits: health & safety limit 32 kg max per item and max dimensions 81 cm × 119 cm × 119 cm cannot be accepted (Terms §3.8, mobility equipment excepted). Excess over allowance charged €13/£13 per kg (Terms §3.4; Fees table: 'Excess Baggage Fee ... €/£13 Per Kilo'). Sharing of paid allowance among passengers on same booking permitted (Terms §3.4).

Every passenger may bring one free small personal bag (40 × 30 × 20 cm) under the seat; Priority & 2 Cabin Bags holders (included with Regular, Flexi Plus, Time Saver) may also bring a large cabin bag (55 × 40 × 20 cm, up to 10 kg) in the overhead locker; infants on lap have no cabin bag but accompanying adult may bring a baby bag.

  • Terms §3.1 and §4.2 confirm: adult entrusted with infant can carry baby bag up to 5 kg as well as own carry-on baggage. Infant fee is €25/£25 per baby per one-way flight (Terms §4.2, Fees table). No seat reserved for lap infant.

  1. Go to ryanair.com and click 'My Bookings', or open the mobile app and go to 'My trips'.
  2. Log in with your myRyanair account or enter your booking reference and booking email.
  3. Select the booking and click 'Manage this booking'.
  4. Select 'Add bags/equipment'.
  5. Choose the baggage option you need and complete payment.

FAQ

Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?

Yes. Add 10kg or 20kg checked bags via My Bookings on ryanair.com or 'My trips' in the mobile app. The 23kg bag can only be added at the time of initial booking.

Where do I buy extra baggage?

Online via My Bookings at ryanair.com, in the mobile app, at the airport check-in desk, or at the boarding gate (highest fees).

When should I buy extra baggage?

At the time of booking for the best price. After booking is more expensive. Airport and gate fees are the highest.

How many extra bags can I buy?

Up to three 20kg bags per booking. Only one 23kg bag per passenger (at booking only). Bag pooling is allowed: passengers can combine weight across bags on the same booking.

Are there any important exceptions?

Excess baggage is unavailable for online purchase on flights from certain airports including Milan Bergamo, Birmingham, Dublin, London Stansted, and Manchester. The 23kg bag cannot be added after booking.
