FAQ
Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?
Yes. You can add up to 2 checked bags anytime from booking until check-in via Manage Trips on jetblue.com or the JetBlue app. The 3rd or more checked bag can only be added during check-in or at the airport.
Where can I purchase extra bags?
Purchase bags through Manage Trips at jetblue.com/manage-trips, the JetBlue app (My Trips), during online check-in (24 hours before departure), or at the airport ticket counter.
When is the best time to buy bags?
Add bags more than 24 hours before departure to save up to $10 each on your first 2 checked bags for flights within the U.S., Latin America, Caribbean, and Canada, or $5/£5/€5 each on transatlantic flights.
How does JetBlue baggage pricing work?
Pricing varies by fare type (Blue Basic, Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, EvenMore, Mint), route (domestic vs. transatlantic), travel period (off-peak vs. peak), and timing of purchase (advance vs. within 24hrs). Blue Plus includes 1 free checked bag. Mint includes 2 free checked bags. On transatlantic flights, Blue and Blue Extra also include 1 free checked bag.
Is it cheaper to buy bags online vs. at the airport?
Yes. You save up to $10 each on your first 2 checked bags when you add them before check-in (more than 24 hours before departure) for domestic routes, or $5/£5/€5 each on transatlantic flights. Checked bag fees are only refundable if the entire booking is cancelled prior to scheduled departure.
What are the checked baggage size and weight limits?
Checked bags must not exceed 62 inches (157.48 cm) in overall dimensions (length + width + height) or 50 pounds (22.68 kg) in weight. Carry-on bags must not exceed 22"L x 14"W x 9"H. Personal items must not exceed 17"L x 13"W x 8"H.
What are the overweight and oversized baggage fees?
Overweight bags (51-99 lbs): $150/£120/€140 per bag. Oversized bags (63-80 inches): $150/£120/€140 per bag. If a bag is both overweight and oversized, both fees apply. Bags over 99 lbs or 80 inches will not be accepted. On transatlantic flights, bags exceeding 70 lbs are not accepted.
Do baggage policies differ on partner airline flights?
Yes. Partner airlines may have baggage policies that differ from JetBlue's. Codeshare flights and flights operated by a partner airline are not eligible for JetBlue free checked bag benefits (e.g., JetBlue Plus Cardmember free bag). Check your specific partner airline's baggage policy before travel.
What payment methods are accepted for baggage fees?
You can pay for checked bags with a credit card or TrueBlue points any time before check-in in Manage Trips on jetblue.com or in My Trips on the JetBlue app.
Are checked bag fees refundable?
Checked bag fees are refundable to the original form of payment if the booking is cancelled prior to the scheduled departure. Bag fees are not refundable if you travel on the flight but end up not checking the bag(s) you paid for.
Are there special baggage rules for certain routes?
Yes. For flights to/from Ecuador, each customer may check a maximum of 2 bags, each not exceeding 62 inches. International bag limitations may vary by market. Group travelers have specific allowances per their contract. Transatlantic flights have different fee structures and weight limits (70 lbs max for overweight bags).
