Where do I buy extra baggage?

Purchase via My Bookings on lufthansa.com, the Lufthansa app, during online check-in, through your travel agency, the Lufthansa Service Center, or at the airport baggage drop-off counter.

When should I buy extra baggage?

Buy online through My Bookings at any time before check-in. Online check-in purchase is available only if checking in more than 2 hours before departure. Booking in advance via My Bookings is recommended for the best price.

How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?

Online purchase is limited to 5 additional bags total. For more than 5 bags, contact the Service Center or purchase at the airport. Maximum weight per bag: 23 kg for Economy and Premium Economy, 32 kg for Business and First Class. Maximum dimensions: 158 cm (H+W+D) for standard bags, up to 292 cm for excess baggage.

How does Lufthansa calculate extra baggage charges?

Lufthansa does not publish fixed extra baggage prices. Pricing depends on the route, travel class, and fare type. Use the baggage calculator on lufthansa.com or check My Bookings for the exact amount for your specific itinerary.

Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance versus at the airport?

Lufthansa does not publicly disclose whether online pricing differs from airport pricing. The baggage calculator provides route-specific pricing. Buying online via My Bookings before check-in is recommended as it guarantees availability and avoids airport queues.

What are the overweight and oversized baggage rules?

In Economy/Premium Economy, excess baggage starts at 23 kg (max 32 kg) or 158 cm (max 292 cm). In Business/First, excess starts at >158 cm (max 292 cm). Baggage exceeding 32 kg or 292 cm cannot be purchased online and must be handled through the Lufthansa Cargo Service Center. Flat rates apply for excess baggage.

Can I get a refund or change my extra baggage purchase if I cancel or change my booking?

Once paid, the bag charge cannot be refunded or offset separately under standard conditions. If your ticket conditions allow a refund, the service can be refunded or changed accordingly. In case of an involuntary ticket change or refund by Lufthansa, the bag charge can be refunded. If you upgrade to a higher fare, the bag charge can also be refunded.

Do partner-airline flights have different baggage rules?

Extra baggage purchase is available on Lufthansa Group operated flights: Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Air Dolomiti, and Lufthansa City Airlines. For flights operated by other partner or codeshare airlines, contact the operating airline directly for their baggage charges.
