Steps
- Go to the Sun Country website (suncountry.com) or open the Sun Country mobile app to search for a flight or access Manage Trip using your last name and reservation code.
- During booking: after selecting your flight, choose your bag options (overhead carry-on and/or checked bags) before proceeding to payment.
- After booking: go to Manage Trip on suncountry.com or in the mobile app, enter your last name and reservation code, then select or add bag options.
- During online check-in: add bag options before completing check-in to avoid higher airport prices.
- For same-day airport purchase: visit the ticket counter or gate.

Yes. Bag options are least expensive when purchased during initial booking, more expensive after booking via Manage Trip or during online check-in, and most expensive at the airport. A $10 gate handling fee also applies to gate purchases.
How many extra bags can I buy, and what are the bag limits?
Checked bags max 62 linear inches and 50 lbs. Maximum accepted weight is 100 lbs (70 lbs for Canada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico). Maximum size is 80 linear inches. Overhead carry-on bags max 24x16x11 inches and 35 lbs. If checking four or more bags, call Reservations or arrange at airport check-in.
What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?
Overweight fees range from +$25 (51–60 lbs) to +$125 (91–99 lbs) for departures on or after September 3, 2025. Bags over 63 linear inches incur a $100 oversized fee. Special sporting equipment also incurs a $100 fee. Checked bags weighing 100+ lbs or exceeding 80 linear inches are not accepted.
When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?
Bag options can be added online via Manage Trip or during online check-in up until departure. However, online prices increase after the initial booking is made.
Are there any discounts or exceptions for baggage fees?
Yes. Active U.S. Military members receive two free checked bags up to 100 lbs each, one free overhead carry-on, and waived oversized fees on the first two checked bags. Sun Country Visa Signature Cardholders get 50% off the first bag when pre-purchased online while logged in.
Can I get a refund or transfer extra baggage if I cancel or change my booking?
All bag options are non-refundable and priced per person, per direction. Bag fees are not transferable.
Can I pay for extra baggage with cards or loyalty points?
Standard payment methods accepted on suncountry.com. Sun Country Rewards points cannot be used for bag purchases. Visa Signature Cardholders receive a 50% discount on the first bag when pre-purchased online.
