FAQ
Can I buy extra baggage online after booking?
Yes. Extra checked baggage, Xtra Carry-On and special equipment handling can be pre-booked on airindiaexpress.com, in the mobile app or via the Tia chatbot up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure.
Where do I buy extra baggage?
Retrieve your booking at airindiaexpress.com under 'Manage My Booking' and select add-ons, or add baggage on the add-ons page during booking. International Connecting Baggage can also be added during web check-in.
When is the deadline to buy extra baggage online?
All baggage add-ons must be purchased up to 2 hours before scheduled departure. After that, only airport rates apply (airport bundles can be requested within 12 hours of departure).
How does Air India Express calculate extra baggage charges?
It is weight-based: Xpress Lite fares include no checked baggage, all other economy fares include one piece up to 15 kg and business class two pieces up to 25 kg. Above the allowance you either pre-book a weight slab (3/5/10/15/25 kg, or 10/15/20/30/40 kg for domestic Lite) or pay per-kg excess at the airport (₹700–750 per kg domestic; international rates vary by market and direction).
What are the bag limits?
Cabin baggage is two pieces with a combined weight of 7 kg (one piece max 56 x 36 x 23 cm plus a small personal item up to 40 x 30 x 10 cm); Xtra Carry-On raises the combined limit to 12 kg. Checked bags must not exceed 32 kg each or 81 x 119 x 119 cm combined dimensions.
Is it cheaper to buy extra baggage online in advance than at the airport?
Yes. Pre-booked slabs are discounted; airport excess is ₹700–750 per kg domestic, an extra piece costs ₹1,000 domestic handling / ₹2,000 international at the airport (vs ₹1,800 pre-booked), and gate baggage costs ₹3,000–6,000.
What are the overweight or oversized baggage rules?
No single bag over 32 kg is accepted, and combined dimensions must not exceed 81 x 119 x 119 cm. Overweight is charged per kg above the allowance, and an additional piece also attracts a separate extra-piece handling fee.
Can I get a refund or transfer for prepaid baggage if I cancel or change my booking?
Prepaid baggage products (Xtra Carry-On, special equipment fee, International Connecting Baggage) are non-refundable and non-transferable, except when the entire booking is cancelled by the guest or the flight is cancelled by the airline.
Are there restrictions on International Connecting Baggage?
ICB is only for guests on a domestic flight connecting to or from an international flight within 24 hours of their scheduled travel. It must be purchased on the airline's direct channels, dropped at the check-in counter (not self bag-drop), and cannot be combined with standard prepaid excess baggage on the same journey.
What should I know about payment for extra baggage?
Baggage fees are paid online in the currency of the market; prices in INR apply when paying in INR, and other currencies are subject to exchange rates (the airline publishes local-currency equivalents in its Fees & Charges document).
